International Hiring Strategies
2016 is likely to be an interesting year for the BRIC economies, all of whom are currently in recession, with the exception of India. As global executive search specialists, this creates some interesting evidence about the flow of business leaders and global talent in and out of these markets.
As I wrote about the Russian market a year ago, when times turn and things get tough it becomes increasingly important to boost your leadership. These economies have all experienced meteoritic growth over the last ten years. However, the skill set required to manage a business that is growing double digit year-on-year is very different to managing one that is flat or even in decline.
In Europe we have seen a significant decline in many traditional markets at the expense of disrupters such as Amazon in the retail industry. As a consequence, successful western leaders have had to be at the forefront of new changes and development in order to maintain their company’s competitive advantage; sometimes in the face of extreme adversity.
In a declining market, business leaders need to be consistent in their approach. There is a need to keep a close eye on costs, maintain strict business control, create effective margin management and protect core brands and strategies. The executive recruitment manager needs to be able to proactively identify those leaders able to deal with these strategies, the execution of which is often extremely tough. Ironically in difficult times those leaders are the ones who do well and can often increase their value to a business. This also improves their marketability and value in the market.
As a global business we see more evidence of this than most, and using our international network we are well placed to help boards make such decisions and execute effective hires.
Page Executive has a proven track record, across a global network, of providing innovative recruitment solutions to address these challenges for organisations. To discuss recruitment challenges and strategies for your business, get in touch with Simon Nolan, Head of Consumer Practice.
