2013 Executive Salary Survey (Brazil)
More than 700 C-level executives working in Brazil and occupying the main executive seats of their respective companies answered our survey questions. Our results give an exclusive insight into the executive market in Brazil.
Fixed and variable remuneration
Base salary. Variation of the basic salary for all sectors is in line with the market’s inflation expectations for Brazil. We found no significant increases in any of the analysed positions.
Short-term incentives. There was a slight downward trend in this portion of executive compensation when compared with the previous year’s data. This was due to the poor performance of the economy and corporate earnings when compared to 2012.
- Long-term incentives. The compensation package stood out when compared with last year. This was due to a high demand scenario for executives, combined with a reduction in short-term bonds in response for companies’ results in 2012. Thus, we found that many companies have implemented new programs or extended this benefit to a greater number of executives.
Rise of hiring for statutory director s. The tendency for hiring statutory dir ectors in national enterprises has risen this year, demonstrating a concern with the corporative governance applied to those organisations. Similarly we verified a decrease of 10% on hires of service providers, reaffirming that tendency.
- D&O insurance. When compared with the information from our previous survey, we noticed an increase in the number of executives with insurance of civil responsibilities and criminal liability (D&O). In our view, this increase shows a growing concern in the market with the involvement of its executives in operation and the broad responsibilities of those who lead.
