Job Description

Carmel School is seeking an experienced and strategic Business Manager to join their leadership team. The Business Manager plays a crucial role in managing the school's financial, operational and administrative functions, ensuring efficient use of resources to support the school's educational aims.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the school's financial and non-financial operations, overseeing areas including finance, IT, HR, facilities, legal, canteen and uniform shop
  • Work closely with the Principal and senior management team to provide strategic leadership
  • Develop and implement strategic plans in alignment with the School's mission
  • Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and providing financial analysis to support decision-making
  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision making, including financial modelling, scenario analysis and sensitivity testing
  • Enhance Board and management financial reporting with dashboards, balance scorecards and graphical analysis to identify trends and draw out key insights
  • Produce timely and accurate Financial Reporting
  • Coordinate risk management strategies, legal matters, and external audit activities
  • Oversee human resources, including payroll, recruitment, performance management and staff development for the non-teaching team
  • Management of IT through an external provider
  • Oversee the management of school facilities, ensuring safety and compliance with relevant legislation
  • Ensure smooth operation of the school's canteen, uniform shop and other key services
  • Lead key projects and initiatives related to operational improvements

The Successful Applicant

The successful applicant will have: 

 

  • Proven experience in a senior finance role with responsibility for various corporate functions 
     
  • Expertise in financial management, including budgeting, financial planning and analysis
     
  • Strong strategic planning abilities
     
  • Strong leadership, management and communication skills
     
  • In-depth knowledge of human resources management, legal compliance and risk management
     
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including staff, the Board, external partners and parents
