About Our Client

Kent HoldCo is the holding company for a range of businesses which were originally established by Kent County Council (KCC) as Local Authority Trading Companies (LATCos). The strategy is to ensure the delivery of LatcCo services at the lowest possible cost to the taxpayers of Kent, to make a positive contribution to the economic development of the County and to achieve sustainable financial returns for the Shareholder, Kent County Council.

There are five principal businesses providing a wide range of services including IT support, the national and international supply of educational consumables and professional services, energy purchasing and a legal firm specialising in safeguarding & immigration. In total, the Kent HoldCo Group employs over 1,600 people and generates over £150m in direct revenue whilst supporting over £600 million of activity.

The businesses are at difference stages of growth, with some providing the majority of their services to KCC, but all are well placed to develop in both the public and private sectors and expand their products and services. We believe this is an incredibly exciting time for an individual to join Kent HoldCo and lead the Board as the businesses build on their successful and developing strategies.

Job Description

Kent HoldCo is seeking to appoint an experienced Chair who is used to collaborating in a complex stakeholder environment and can guide the Kent HoldCo Board; you will work closely with the Group Chief Executive to help develop and deliver a wide-ranging, strategic transformation of the Kent HoldCo group of local authority trading companies, a transformation that will maximise the opportunity and performance of the Group whilst delivering first class services.

You will represent the Group at the main and Shareholder Board(s) providing appropriate challenge and advice. It is important that the Chair maintains a robust and defensible governance structure and ensures risk management frameworks are in place. You will leverage your networks to enable profitable and productive partnerships with local, regional, and national client organisations. The Chair will promote the Group's propositions and capabilities, overseeing complex ventures and help seek out new sustainable revenue streams.

The Successful Applicant

The new incumbent will be an experienced Chair who has worked with Group structures of diverse companies before and delivered a wide range of products and lines of service. It is important that you are accomplished at working in a political environment and possess a commercial mindset, ideally having worked with a range of sectors previously.

A background in governance, regulation and stewardship are all requirements for this role. Significant Non-Executive Directorship and stakeholder management experience is essential, alongside an understanding of the products and business services the Group provides.

We encourage applications from all backgrounds, communities and industries, and are committed to having a Board that is made up of diverse skills, experiences and abilities. We actively encourage BAME, LGBTQ and disabled applicants and value the positive impact that difference has on our teams. We are committed to equality and diversity within our workforce and all opportunities provided by Kent HoldCo.
