Job Description

We are seeking a strategic, driven and collaborative Finance Business Director - Central Portfolios to join the Financial Resources Management (FiRM) team within the Chief Financial Officer and Office of the Senior Vice-President Finance.

This is a senior leadership role with a significant influence on the financial and strategic direction of the University's central portfolios. You will provide expert financial advice, lead high-impact initiatives, and guide key decisions that shape Monash's future.You'll lead a team of finance professionals delivering high-level financial services across budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, reporting, modelling and strategic analysis - supporting central portfolios that manage more than $1 billion in funding.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to the University's executive leadership and stakeholders on complex strategic matters.
  • Drive financial excellence through expert guidance, analysis, planning, and modelling to ensure the University remains agile, competitive and financially sustainable.
  • Lead the annual delivery and development of the University's central budget and financial frameworks.
  • Build a culture of accountability and high performance through continuous review and innovation in financial practices.
  • Oversee and develop a talented team of 14 finance professionals, fostering excellence in client service and strategic partnering.

The Successful Applicant

Ideal background: Candidates should have a background in budgeting and planning in large organisations and can demonstrate advanced business partnering experience with senior stakeholders. They will have proven leadership credentials having managed large and diverse team, and oversight of complex group level, consolidated budgeting.

Technical skills: Candidates are required to be Degree qualified in Accounting / Finance, plus professional CA/CPA qualifications. You will be required to support a wide variety of portfolios with their financial forecasting and budgeting, able to understand different business and funding models, whilst also managing external factors. Outstanding analytical, strategic and conceptual skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and deliver actionable insights.

Behavioural attributes: Candidates will have demonstrated leadership experience and a proven ability to influence and collaborate with senior executives and diverse stakeholders across industries. They should also embody the values of Monash finance team; collaboration, curiosity, engagement and capability.
