The Director delivers accurate financial reports and advice to senior hotel management (and ownership) and ensures that the hotel complies with all local and corporate policies, procedures, and management agreements, as well as any other applicable agreements (e.g., loan agreements). • Prepare a detailed monthly financial report in the required corporate format, adhering to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Manage all contracts, leases, and agreements, ensuring compliance with their terms. Ensure proper authorization is in place for hotel-specific contracts (including Engineering), and that competitive bids are reviewed and documented where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with loan covenants where applicable, and verify the accuracy of the long-term debt balance, ensuring it aligns with supporting documentation.
  • If required, ensure accurate recording of interest accruals on long-term debt, and reflect them appropriately on the hotel's financial statements.
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly and that reconciliations are signed off in accordance with company policy.
  • Review and approve all bank reconciliations each month, paying special attention to reconciling items.
  • Effectively manage labor costs, ensuring vacation plans and service levels align with labor standards while minimizing overtime.
  • Prepare forecasts and budgets as required by the hotel, corporate office, or management agreements.
  • Properly document and disclose gains or losses on the sale or disposal of fixed assets in financial statements.
  • Support and mentor the finance team to encourage growth and development.
  • Maintain strong relationships with hotel ownership and both internal and external auditors, and take action on recommendations when necessary.
  • Handle all disciplinary and grievance issues consistently, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Lead effective department meetings, communicate appropriately, and follow up on action items.
  • Assist the General Manager in setting up policies, internal controls, and safeguards.
