They offer a hybrid working mode with offices located in either London or Manchester which could be utilised in the working pattern for this role.

Job Description

Key responsibilities include:

  • Set the architectural direction underpinning the Bank's Data Strategy
  • Define and maintain the target data architecture and road map (including the build out of enterprise data platforms and increased use of cloud technologies)
  • Work with senior stakeholder across the Bank to drive adoption of the target data architecture
  • Establish data architecture frameworks, standards and patterns that ensure consistent Bank-wide storage, consumption, and distribution of data
  • Lead the Bank-wide approach, and service model for metadata management including:
    • Development of the metdata framework
    • Establishing and managing the Bank's enterprise data catalogue
    • Establishing the standards and approach for data modelling
  • As a key member of the Architecture Council, establish effective governance processes which as a minimum:
    • Monitors and ensures Bank-wide compliance with approved data architecture standard and patterns
    • Gathers input and manages changes to the target data architecture and road map
  • Lead the scoping, and initial pre-project design of candidate data projects
  • Develop and own key data architecture outputs, including the catalogue of authoritative sources
  • Recruit and lead a small but high performing team of data architects and modellers
  • Provide data architecture and data technology related subject matter expertise. Perform regular horizon scanning to identify and raise awareness of new and emerging data-related industry trends, technologies and regulatory changes
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to educate and raise awareness of the Bank's target data architecture and helping to champion the move to a data-centric approach
  • Prepare, present and effectively communicate on data architecture issues and trends to senior forums and management committees

The Successful Applicant

Candidate Skills and Experience:

  • Exposure of either running a data architecture function, or as a lead data architect within a significant business or architectural area
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of
    • Designing and implementing target data architectures
    • Standing up data architecture design and governance processes
    • Developing metadata frameworks, standard and approaches
    • Developing and implementing enterprise data catalogues and models
  • Practicalexperienceofdesigningandarchitecting data solutions using a mix of:
    • batch and real time data sourcing and integration patterns
    • big data and traditional warehousing / relational database technologies
    • business intelligence and analytics tooling
    • master data management technologies
  • Strong understanding and experience of cloud data architectures in either AWS or Azure
  • Practical experience of collaborating across business and technology stakeholders to design and apply logical data models, and construct business data glossaries
  • Good understanding of data governance and data quality frameworks and approaches
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a high attention to detail and a focus on continuous improvement
  • Background in financial services and a robust knowledge and experience of banking data sets. Understanding of data related regulation including BCBS239 is preferred
  • Ability to build strong professional customer-centric relationships at all levels of the organisation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to analyse, articulate and present complex data issues and architectures clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders. Experience of presenting to senior committees a must

What's on Offer

Basic Salary: £120,000 - £140,000 (dependant on candidate skills) including good pension and benefits package
