About Our Client
A very profitable & successful British privately owned manufacturing business with a market leading brand name are currently looking to recruit a Head of Engineering / Engineering Manager.
This role has been created due to an exciting new phase of business growth. The company design, manufacturer and supply specialist equipment into a variety of industry sectors, including Automotive, Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Defence, Nuclear and Energy exporting the vast majority of its production.
Their machines are mostly bespoke and application specific to each industrial customer's production needs. This provides a sustainable niche, and demands a high degree of Engineering content for each machine sale.
The Engineering function is critical to their success, and plays an important strategic role in the future development of the company. There are currently 10+ skilled engineers in the team, which is growing to meet both increased sales demand and an ambitious R&D programme, with lead engineers on Mechanical, Electrical/Electronics (including software) and Development systems.
Reporting to the Engineering Director, this role will have line management responsibility for the entire Engineering team, and will play a key role in the Engineering content within the overall business strategy. The successful candidate will work with the team in setting priorities, managing progress on projects, and liaising with other functions within the company, in addition to providing technical guidance as necessary.
The Successful Applicant
Commutable to Cambridge, the successful candidate will have a proven track record in managing Engineering teams in a manufacturing context. Whilst specific expertise in their niche applications is not necessary, the individual will need to command technical credibility based on experience and qualifications. A degree in a technical subject is essential, and the qualification of Chartered Engineer is preferred. Of utmost importance is the track record in project management and in working with, motivating and developing teams of technical people; examples of success will be expected to have been demonstrated.
