Job Description

I am currently recruiting a Head of External Affairs for a financial services membership body in London. You will

  • Lead on the delivery of the associations strategic external relations target audiences including Government (Westminster and Devolved nations), the media and other opinion formers and stakeholders.
  • Provide advice and guidance to members and colleagues on a broad range of external affairs matters, to continue developing and maintain a favourable operating environment for members and to champion members and the wider financial mutual sector as a key part of the UK's current and future financial services sector.
  • To instigate, plan and execute the communications strategies (to include social media and publications) to promote the views to the media and other key stakeholders.
  • To assist the Chief Executive in the delivery of the association's strategy together with a range of related issues.

The Successful Applicant



You will:

  • Experience of working at a senior level in external affairs, within financial services, trade associations or another highly regulated market
  • The ideal candidate will have strong public affairs experience
  • Ability to build strong relationships to become a trusted contact of political stakeholders, journalists, commentators and a trusted adviser inside the sector.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Government and media relations and social media platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Diplomacy to deal with sensitive and confidential matters appropriately.
  • Strong leadership, motivational and teambuilding skills.
  • Ability to see the relevance and implications of wider, strategic issues.
