The support that Guy's and St Thomas' Consulting provides is uniquely different from conventional management consultancy as they use in-house clinical and operations experts. Through this approach they are able to combine leading edge thinking with practical, real world experience. Their in-house staff are trained to act as external consultants and our team of highly experienced project managers support the process throughout the engagement.
Their projects are tailored to meet differing client needs depending on how much support they require and are split into phases:
Phase 1: In-depth review of new service needs or detailed analysis of existing service, concluding with clear recommendations and supporting plan.
Phase 2: Focused on implementation support that can be organised as hands-on delivery by Guy's and St Thomas' Consulting or intermittent review and support where the client is taking the lead in delivery.
Phase 3: Provision of follow-up support with either periodic scheduled interaction or on an 'as needed' basis. We can also move seamlessly from consulting into a partnership agreement as needed.
The Head of GSTT Consulting will take a leadership role within the commercial directorate as well as across the Trust. They will engage with the clinical directorate and support service directorates to develop the commercial portfolio within the UK and international for GSTT. They will focus on the priorities that are identified via the business planning process, which emerge as major themes either from the Trust Board, from major partners, or through proactive/reactive marketing.
This is a senior leadership role within the Trust and within the Commercial team that is essential at this time to strengthen the delivery of commercial acumen and scope within the Trust. Demonstrating both sound strategic thinking and a systematic tactical approach, the Head of GSTT Consulting will fulfil a key function in assisting in driving an ambitious commercial strategy that will deliver significant UK and international business development opportunities.
The role will include specific leadership in respect of developing strategic business alliances as well as a strong network of business contacts. There is a desire within the commercial leadership team to better integrate the UK and international business development requirements of the Trust. They will support the Head of International Business Development, the Head of UK Business Development and the head of Commercial education & events in the overall delivery of identified opportunities from prospecting until conversion into a formal engagement including providing expertise for the negotiation and delivery of contracts. They will provide support in ensuring the transition from engagement to operational delivery.
The Head of GSTT Consulting will have a high level of freedom to act; they will be accountable for their own actions, use their own initiative and act independently particularly when undertaking negotiations and third party interactions. They will have to understand and interpret the UK commercial strategy in order to establish the specific goals and deliverables required for long term success of the commercial strategy.
The Head of GSTT Consulting will lead the GSTT Consulting team consisting of, Commerical Business Consultants, Project Administrators, Clinical and Medical staff, other staff colleagues from support services working on consulting assignments, the associate staff pool, other staff and partners as and when identified for assignments.
The Successful Applicant
- 1st Degree and postgraduate qualification or Substantial and significant evidence of specialist knowledge and delivery relevant to GSTT Consulting business development working
- Experience working both within NHS and private company
- Knowledge and understanding of the UK NHS
- Strong evidence of understanding, proposing and negotiating diverse business structures suitable for a broad spectrum of business opportunities
- A strong and successful track record of highly complex contractual negotiations in the UK and Internationally.
- Leadership of large and diverse teams
- Ideally business to Business consulting service experience.
- A strong and successful track record of highly complex contractual negotiations in the UK and an International setting
- Ability to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities and programmes.
- Expert knowledge of the cultural issues and interfaces that must be understood and managed in order to deliver a mixed portfolio of initiatives.
