About Our Client

Job Description

The key responsibilities will be, but not limited to the following activities:

· Serving as a member of the Africa Region Executive Committee. Required to attend all ExCo meetings and report on legal/regulatory issues that affect the region and provide support to fellow ExCo members on their strategic initiatives;

· Serving as an active business partner to the regional/country leadership teams, working to drive strategic opportunities; reduce costs; and identify and diminish commercial risks;

· Applying combined business and legal acumen to advise the business on: transnational matters; commercial and regulatory issues; litigation; privacy; and other matters;

· Providing training to all stakeholders in the region, as required;

· Collaborating with global legal colleagues and subject matter experts to analyse and advise the regional commercial teams on complex legal/compliance issues;

· Structure and negotiate complex transactions;

· Oversee outside counsel in matters of litigation; M&A; and other matters.

· Manage and develop regional legal team;

· Help support and drive cross business-line, global, and regional synergies;

· Implement and coordinate the strategic solutions, policies, procedures, controls to ensure that the Group's exposure to legal risk is effectively managed;

· Facilitate the execution of Group business and operational strategies/initiatives and assist the Group's functional support teams in fulfilment of the same; and

· Participate and provide guidance to colleagues in relation to local and regional projects or transactions.

The Successful Applicant

Required Skills and Knowledge (Brief description of technical knowledge or skills needed to perform the job):

· Local and international business acumen understanding the nuances and can operate confidentially across the continent.

· Excellent written/verbal communication and negotiation skills.

· Ability to organize, prioritize and manage deadlines in a fast-based and demanding work environment.

· Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams.

· Ability to maintain strong working relationships with internal clients.Required Qualifications (Brief description of the educational background needed to perform the job):

· Tertiary degree in a law and or a business-related discipline and post graduate qualifications would be held in high regard.

· Qualified lawyer, in good standing, with at least 5 years of relevant post qualification experience.Required Languages (Brief description of the language skills needed to perform the job):

· Business/Legal fluency in verbal and written English and Portuguese; similar proficiency in French would be well regarded, but is not essential.Travel / Rotation Requirements (Brief description of any travel or rotation requirements):

· Regional travel to support your direct team and attendance to group facilitated workshops/training and

conferences as required by the business.
