About Our Client

My Client have been providing transport services throughout Europe for over 30 years. The range of products handled includes fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen deserts, cut flowers, chocolates and biscuits.

In addition their general cargo division moves non food products such as engineering components, paper, building materials, publications and clothing.

Job Description

Developing the established regional offices with strong working relationships with the Country Managers in place. This includes each office has the necessary breadth of skills and resource and actively develop the skill set of the managers with guidance relating to customer, carrier, team development and business support function matters (Customs, Finance, IT, HR, Health & Safety, Legal Compliance etc)

Identify development opportunities which could include new office set up, acquisition targets and new service offerings.


  1. Work alongside the Senior team to deliver the strategy for the International business area which ensures sustainable and profitable growth is achieved.
  2. Translates strategic goals into action plans for their management team ensuring accountabilities are clear and the team fully understands how their work impacts and contributes to the business.
  3. Continually review service offering and geographical coverage to support the strategic aims of the business.

Commercial, Customers and Suppliers

  1. The main day to day senior contact for customers and Suppliers maintaining strong relationships which are reflective of the Company's values.
  2. Ensures the Operations team understands customer needs, meets customer needs, delights customers and develops customer loyalty.

Financial and Operational

  1. In conjunction with the Board agree the financial budget for the business area's taking full accountability for P&L.
  2. Ensures that there is an appropriate method of measurement, evaluation and review of their business area, KPIs, which ensure that the strategic and day to day performance targets are achieved in each key area of the business and the board are kept updated.
  3. Key areas of the business areOperations
    1. Finance - including P&L performance.
    2. Account management and Development
    3. People management
    4. Ensures the business area is compliant with:
    1. Company and Customer Policy
    2. Transport Legislation
    3. Health & Safety Legislation
    4. Environmental Government Guidelines and legislation
    5. BRC Accreditation
    6. GDP Good distribution Practice regulations.


Demonstrates strong people management and leadership capability with the management team, across areas and function, utilising and role modelling the full range of people management tools to great effect, and 'walks the talk'.

Ensures their team has the right capability, capacity and organisational design to take the business forward and the team are fully engaged, work collaboratively, possess a deep understanding of the business and the drivers that create value and proactively seek to continually make improvements to reduce the operation costs.

The Successful Applicant

  • Depth of knowledge and experience gained over a number of years at senior management of transport operations.
  • International CPC Holder.
  • Proven track record of managing key customer relationships.
  • Excellent leadership, influencing, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and develop a strategic plan for the business which drives business growth.
  • Excellent understanding of transport, health & safety and environmental law.
  • Excellent understanding of P&L accounting processes.
  • Ability to develop and deliver a budget.
  • Excellent understanding of transport models, processes and procedures.
  • A depth of understanding of the transport sector which enables them to effectively identify business opportunities.
  • Experience of preparing responses to tender and presenting to customers.
  • Excellent PC skills (Microsoft office and experience of transport systems would be beneficial).
  • Self-motivated, operates with integrity and leads by example.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout Europe.
  • English speaking and other languages are desirable.

What's on Offer

The successful candidate will need to be flexible on travel throughout Europe - countries include France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Belgium and the UK. Whilst the HQ is based in the UK this role would suit someone already living in Europe due to the travel commitments.

Six figure salary and SLT package

Ability to lead and grow one of the organisations core business units
