Job Description

The Head Of Sales will fulfil the following duties:

  • Takes part in the development of the business in South Africa and its annual sales budget, implementation and monthly reviews and reporting
  • Identifies potential clients, and converts enquires and opportunities to orders
  • Inputs into the sales and operations planning meeting to ensure that Production planning and sourcing meets the requirements of the customer
  • Interfaces with Production Planning, Finance and other international Operations departments, to resolve any non-conformance and provide customers with the best possible sales and after sales service
  • Adept at managing customer expectations vs factory efficiency constraints
  • Participates in contract negotiating, writing and reviewing
  • Negotiates ad-hoc pricing(promotional)
  • Provides market intelligence on volumes and pricing and people
  • Analyses and makes decisions based on quantitative and qualitative information obtained from internal and external sources
  • Builds and develops solid relationships across all functions of the customer in order to obtain an insiders perspective on the customer
  • Drives collaboration on business strategy and engage customers on new innovations and capabilities relating to their business
  • Develops and administers marketing database which includes clients and prospects contact information and personal data
  • Interfaces with Production Planning, Finance and other internal Operations departments, to resolve non-conformance and provide customers with the best possible after-sales service
  • Ensure and follow up on the company's value proposition to the customers
  • Develops and manages relationships with clients and potential clients: acts as the voice among various clients
  • Networks and builds relationships with key industry players
  • Leads internal meetings to support clients business
  • Secures continuous and timely supply of pertinent market data and researches
  • Provides business and market intelligence to support the South African operational and strategic objectives
  • Ensures timely submission of daily, weekly, monthly and periodic reports for decision making
  • Provides required oversight of the Sales function in South Africa, and ensures the quality of work meets with performance expectations
  • Provides on the job coaching and mentoring to subordinates
  • Prioritises and assign tasks to subordinates to ensure effective work flow
  • Reviews/inspects work carried out by subordinates, and evaluates their performance

The Successful Applicant

The candidate must have the following:

  • Relevant qualification
  • A Masters degree would be highly beneficial
  • A minimum of 10 years of Sales experience within a FMCG or Manufacturing FMCG company or Glass/PET manufacturing or Major Cigarettes manufacturing company at a senior level
  • Knowledge of the South African market
  • Knowledge of the SA macroeconomic and micro economic fundamentals
  • Only open to South African Affirmative Action candidates(AA) - non negotiable
  • Must be an innovative thinker and a self starter
  • Must be hands on
  • Must be able to push boundaries and change things within the business that are not working
