Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and sitting on the ELT, the Executive Manager Asset Management is Western Power's Chief Engineer for both its Transmission and Distribution networks.The role provides enterprise-wide leadership across asset strategy, asset performance, engineering, network planning,and optimisation, while overseeing the delivery of more than $1billion of network investment.

Job Description

The role also has accountability for the real-time operation and security of Western Power's transmission and distribution network through its 24/7 control centres, ensuring the network remains safe, reliable and resilient while supporting the transition to a cleaner energy system.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead Western Power's asset management strategy across the transmission and distribution networks, including long-term asset planning, replacement and lifecycle optimisation.
  • Provide engineering leadership across the network, establishing standards, design principles and frameworks that support major capital investment and the future development of the network.
  • Lead the development and delivery of an annual works program exceeding $1 billion, ensuring investment is prioritised effectively and delivers value for customers and the organisation.
  • Develop asset performance frameworks and strategies that optimise asset lifecycle, reliability, risk and cost.
  • Lead strategies to manage system and network security risks associated with increasing renewable generation across the transmission and distribution networks.
  • Develop network plans that support Western Australia's decarbonisation objectives and the evolving needs of communities and major industrial customers.
  • Oversee the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the electricity network, including real-time monitoring, system security, voltage control and the management of planned and unplanned events.
  • Lead engineering, design and standardisation strategies that support major capital projects and align network development with Western Power's long-term strategic direction.
  • Identify and deliver opportunities to improve program efficiency, productivity and cost effectiveness, including demonstrating value to the CEO, Board and regulator.
  • Lead engagement with government, regulators, industry partners and other agencies on network, asset management and operational matters.
  • Provide strategic advice to the CEO, Board and Executive Leadership Team on asset performance, network investment, engineering, operational risk and the future development of the network.
  • Lead and develop a large, multidisciplinary organisation, establishing a high-performing, commercially focused and customer-centric culture.

The Successful Applicant

We are seeking a senior executive with a strong track record leading large-scale asset-intensive operations in a complex and highly regulated environment.

You will bring:

  • Extensive senior leadership experience across asset management, engineering, network operations or a closely related discipline.
  • A proven track record leading large operational or infrastructure businesses with significant safety, reliability, regulatory and commercial accountability.
  • Strong experience in long-term asset planning, lifecycle management, network strategy and the operationalisation of major investment programs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex electricity, utilities or infrastructure networks, ideally across both transmission and distribution environments.
  • Experience leading major capital works programs and balancing investment, reliability, customer outcomes, risk and regulatory requirements.
  • A strong understanding of the changing energy system and the challenges associated with increasing renewable energy penetration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead transformational change while maintaining operational performance and reliability.
  • Strong commercial, strategic and financial acumen, with the ability to make complex investment and risk decisions at enterprise level.
  • Exceptional leadership, influencing and stakeholder management capabilities, with the credibility to engage with Boards, CEOs, government, regulators and industry.
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety, operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business or a related discipline.



Experience within utilities, energy, telecommunications, major infrastructure or other asset-intensive environments will be highly regarded, as will postgraduate qualifications such as an MBA and eligibility for corporate membership of Engineers Australia.
