About Our Client

Our client is a privately owned mining company operating a portfolio of producing assets and associated processing infrastructure. With a strong focus on operational excellence, safety, sustainability and continuous improvement, the business is entering an exciting phase of growth and transformation. As a result, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced General Manager Operations to join the team and play a key role in shaping and executing the operational strategy across the site.

Job Description

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer, the General Manager Operations will be accountable for the safe, efficient and profitable performance of a large-scale surface mining and processing operation.

This role will provide strategic and operational leadership across mining, processing, maintenance, projects, technical services, safety, environment and community engagement. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational performance while fostering a strong safety culture and high-performing workforce.Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing visible leadership across all site operations, ensuring a strong culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Delivering production, cost, recovery and operational performance objectives.
  • Leading and developing a multidisciplinary leadership team.
  • Driving operational and business improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, efficiency and sustainability.
  • Managing key stakeholder relationships, including regulators, contractors, suppliers and community partners.
  • Supporting long-term planning, resource optimisation and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with all statutory, regulatory and environmental obligations.
  • Contributing to executive leadership discussions, business planning and organisational strategy.

The Successful Applicant

The successful applicant will be a proven senior mining leader with extensive experience managing large-scale surface mining operations. You will possess a strong operational background, exceptional leadership capability and a demonstrated track record of delivering safe, productive and cost-effective outcomes within complex mining environments.

You will be comfortable operating at both a strategic and operational level, with the ability to influence culture, drive performance and build highly engaged teams. Experience leading multidisciplinary functions across mining, processing, maintenance and technical services will be highly regarded.Key requirements include:

  • Significant leadership experience within open pit or surface mining operations.
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience managing operational budgets and performance outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead operational improvement, transformation or turnaround initiatives.
  • Experience managing diverse stakeholder groups including regulators, contractors, communities and executive leadership teams.
  • A hands-on leadership style with a focus on culture, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Current Site Senior Executive (SSE) qualifications or the ability to rapidly obtain the necessary statutory requirements for appointment.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering, Engineering, Geology or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
