As the UK's leading end of life care charity, Marie Curie has a key role to play in shaping and delivering the changes needed in how end of life care is delivered both today and in the future.

Today, almost one in three people are not getting the end of life care and support they need. And as the population ages, the demand for palliative care is expected to rise by 21% over the next 25 years. Without additional intervention, by 2050 over 250,000 people in the UK won't receive the end of life care and support they need.

Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as a key member of the Executive Team, the Chief Financial Officer will provide strategic leadership to ensure the organisation remains financially sustainable while delivering its charitable mission. The CFO will work closely with the CEO, Board of Trustees and Executive colleagues to shape long-term strategy, support organisational transformation and drive innovation in service and funding models.The role has executive accountability over the areas of Financial Planning and Business Partnering, Financial Operations, Governance (including Risk, Compliance, Company Secretariat, Legal Services and Data Protection) and Estates & Facilities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the organisation's long-term financial and investment strategy.
  • Providing strategic advice on financial sustainability, performance, risk and governance.
  • Developing innovative financial approaches that support sustainable growth and organisational transformation.
  • Overseeing financial planning, forecasting, budgeting and business partnering.
  • Driving financial accountability and commercial awareness across the organisation.
  • Providing executive oversight of financial operations, procurement and financial controls.
  • Leading governance functions including risk, compliance, legal services, company secretariat and data protection.
  • Developing effective partnerships with the Board of Trustees and supporting robust governance and assurance frameworks.
  • Providing strategic leadership for the estates and facilities portfolio.
  • Building high-performing teams and contributing to organisation-wide strategy, culture and performance.



The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate will bring significant Executive or Board-level leadership experience within an organisation of comparable scale and complexity, gained in the private, public or third sector. They will have a strong track record of delivering sustainable financial performance, leading strategic financial planning and supporting organisational growth and transformation.

We are looking for someone with strong strategic and commercial acumen, together with an interest in innovative funding, financing and investment approaches. They will bring the curiosity, insight and capability to explore how new models could support Marie Curie's long-term sustainability, impact and future growth.

You will demonstrate:

  • Proven experience leading a high-performing finance function.
  • Expertise in strategic financial planning, forecasting and commercial decision-making.
  • Experience of developing innovative financial models, challenging established approaches and supporting organisational growth and transformation.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to influence, inspire and build trusted relationships.
  • Experience working with Boards, Board Committees and a broad range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to balance strategic vision with effective execution.
  • Commercial and entrepreneurial thinking with a focus on long-term sustainability.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex financial information into clear strategic insight.
  • A values-driven approach, underpinned by integrity and commitment to the organisation's purpose.

What’s on Offer

Salary: £170,000

This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in person, with at least one of those days spent in the London office and the remainder either in London or at locations across the UK.
