The Associate Director, Credit Risk Review will be responsible for independent risk assurance, focused specifically on leveraged lending and broader wholesale credit portfolios. This role evaluates the strength of underwriting, portfolio management, and adherence to internal policy and regulatory expectations across complex sponsor‑backed and leveraged credit exposures.

Job Description

Key ResponsibilitiesIndependent Credit Review & Assessment

  • Lead reviews of leveraged lending and wholesale credit exposures, including sponsor-backed transactions, LBOs, recapitalizations, refinancings, and complex capital structures.
  • Evaluate underwriting quality, financial analysis, deal structures, covenants, collateral, and alignment with risk appetite.
  • Validate accuracy of internal risk ratings and identify gaps requiring further mitigation or escalation.



Portfolio Risk Analysis

  • Assess ongoing monitoring practices, borrower performance, sponsor behavior, and covenant compliance within the portfolio.
  • Identify emerging risks, concentration themes, and portfolio vulnerabilities tied to market conditions or sponsor behavior.
  • Conduct thematic, horizontal, or deep‑dive reviews on targeted risk areas.



Governance, Reporting & Stakeholder Interaction

  • Prepare clear, objective reports summarizing findings, root causes, and recommended improvements.
  • Present results to senior risk leadership, credit executives, and business line stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with credit policy, independent risk, internal audit, model risk, and capital/portfolio analytics teams as needed.



Continuous Improvement & Leadership

  • Mentor junior reviewers and contribute to building best‑in‑class review methodologies.
  • Support enhancements to sampling approaches, scoring criteria, and documentation standards.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and disciplined credit risk management.

The Successful Applicant

Qualifications

  • 6-10+ years of credit risk review, underwriting, portfolio management, or credit audit experience within leveraged lending or wholesale credit.
  • Strong understanding of sponsor finance, leveraged lending guidelines, and wholesale credit risk frameworks.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex capital structures, financial statements, and cash flow models.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills suitable for senior audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to challenge constructively while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced credentials (MBA, CFA, CRC) are a plus.
