The Future of Work and the Impact of Technology on Management

Technology & People Post Covid-19 is a series of talks with relevant high-profile industry leaders from different sectors, hosted by Stefano Cavaliere, Associate Partner and Head of the European Technology Practice of Page Executive.

The purpose of these talks is to inspire people during these tough times, and to share best practices and interesting learnings about the future, and the impact of technology on management post Covid.

To better understand the key take away points from this project, Stefano has made a map composed of 48 answers/keywords from his interviews with the leaders. You can read the map vertically by topic, and horizontally by theme to appreciate the cross-fertilization methodology of this project. On the righthand side you will find 4 key conclusions that were a common thread during this empirical investigation.

FOUR KEY CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF WORK AND THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY ON MANAGEMENT

Technology will be the key, but People will have to govern it

Technology will be crucial, but culture will be much more important. The trade-off between the offering of the tech industry and its application within companies is clearly unbalanced; technology is ready to use, like blockchain, or messaging and tracking, but those that will make a difference will be companies that will set-up the organization to give all employees the chance to not suffer technology, but make them feel like they govern it.

Governance needs to be inclusive and principles need to be shared

People will change, and companies will have to adapt to the people changes. An inclusive governance will be the key to evangelize and merge Technology and People.

On top of this, sharing values, principles, strategy, sacrifice, embracing people’s needs and giving them concrete chances to unlock their potential will be one of the main challenges of the future for any corporation.

Cross fertilization and quantitative skills will be the success factor

Cross Fertilization will be the real asset for any company to be successful; hiring people with mixed backgrounds, working on dedicated journeys and making them efficient will be a success factor to growth in performance and revenues.

Boosting up quantitative skills such as mathematics and statistics, while at the same time soft skills such as empathy by creating models of continuous learning will be another one of the main challenges for corporations.

Who will match technology and business? The Technologist

The Technologist is a professional able to match technology and business. With a mix of skills, these profiles can be a real key factor to success due to their sensitive and strategic thinking always related to technology. They will be the perfect balance between the opportunities that technology can offer, and the strategic plan of the company. Having these people inside your organization will make the difference on the market.

At Page Executive, we support our clients in their cultural change, assessing the company, the board and the people, and we would be more than happy to share further insights with you. Feel free to reach out to me if you have questions about the conclusions.
